The Great British Sewing Bee

This week we were very excited to discover a new television show called The Great British Sewing Bee, will be hitting our screens this Spring.

The show is hoping to follow in the foot steps of the extremely successful BBC series TheGreat British Bake Off and aims to find Britain’s best amateur sewing enthusiast.

Each week the contestants will compete to demonstrate their sewing skills and impress the shows judges; May Martin, an acclaimed needlework work teacher and Patrick Grant, an award-winning menswear designer.

The show harks back to the days when the Queen Mother held sewing bees at Buckingham Palace during the war in the spirit of make do and mend.

It is hoped that the show will do for sewing what The Great British Bake Off has done for cake-making.  We hope so!

The Great British Sewing Bee starts on Tuesday 2 April, 8pm, BBC2.  We would really love to improve our sewing skills and will definitely be tuning in to watch it.

We'll keep you posted when we do our first sewing project.
